Born in 1960, John was born in Halifax, who began performing in 1976 at the age of 16.He decided to pursue a career in music, and attended Red Deer College, graduating in 1990.

In his college years, he spent three years studying Studio lab band, Big band, Sound engineering, and Music Merchandising. He was the President of the music society, and Received the Student's Certificate of Excellence Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement.

Since his early performances, he has picked up on a wide variety of different guitar styles, learned to play new instruments, and has learned to sing both lead vocals and harmonies. John has performed and recorded from Newfoundland to Alberta.
John has had the pleasure of performing with Bill Bourne, (1991 Juno Award winner) internationally acclaimed band leader/composer, Bobby Shew, and the late Ron Dan (Murray mcLaughlan's steel guitar player). In 1990, John was invited to perform at the Montraux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. He was then hired in 1993 to perform with the Vancouver based on the Legends of Country impersonators, a group that does impersonations of country music greats such as Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Ricky Van Shelton, and Patsy Cline.
John has also played the circuit rooms in the Maritimes since 1981 With his experience in composing, arranging, and producing, he played a key role in Project Discovery, a pair of music videos that received national air time. He also produced, engineered, performed all instrumentals, and designed the insert for the newly released CD, A Tribute to the S.S. Atlantic. John is now celebrating his 30th year of teaching private music lessons.He teaches various guitar styles such as Celtic, Jazz, Rock, Country, R & B, Latin American, and vocals.
